Orange County, CA – A woman was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole for fatally poisoning her two children in a hotel room after losing her parental rights.

The  44-year-old woman, Marilyn Kay Edge, pleaded guilty in December to  two felony counts of murder with special circumstance enhancements for committing multiple murders.

She lost custody of 10-year-old Faith and 13-year-old Jaelen in 2013 to her ex-husband. The custody battle took place in Georgia but Edge was from Scottsdale, Arizona.

Instead of giving up custody, Edge drove them to Arizona. She then told her kids they were going on a family vacation to California.

That “vacation” ended tragically for the two kids at a Hampton Inn & Suites in Santa Ana, where they were poisoned by Edge.

Edge drove her car into a electrical box thinking that her car would explode, killing herself, but it didn’t work.

When officers arrived on the scene, Edge was attempting to strangle herself with something around her neck,” said Cpl. Anthony Bertagna, spokesman for the Santa Ana Police Department.

Once police pulled her out of the car, she told them that her kids were at the hotel. When police arrived, the two kids were found dead in the bathtub.
