On September 20, expect to receive a text from an old friend that has found your cellular number.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced that they will conduct a nationwide test of the Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) at 2:18 PM EDT and the Emergency Alert System (EAS) at 2:20 PM EDT on September 20.
This will be the fourth nationwide test of the EAS. It will include radio and television broadcasters, cable systems, satellite radio and television providers and wireline video providers.
As for the WEA, this is the first time that a nationwide test will be conducted on the wireless system. Every cell phone in America will receive a test message that will read “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.”
The test will assess the operational readiness of the infrastructure for distribution of a national message and determine whether technological improvements are needed.
Thanks for keeping in touch “big brother”.
