Jersey City – A baby boy was shot in New Jersey on Saturday. Drama could not escape the 1-year-old’s day-after-Christmas car ride as reported by Jonathan Lin for the Jersey Journal.
The baby was shot while sitting in the back seat of a car in Jersey City. He was hit in the right cheek by either glass or bullet fragments.
The shooting happened around 2:30 p.m., when the scene developed across the street from a post office.
A man begin firing a gun at the intersection of Bergen and Harrison before fleeing. The baby was sitting the backseat of a car, while his father was in the front seat. The baby’s mother had entered the post office.
Jersey City spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill said the baby’s injury are not life-threatening.
Jersey City mayor Steve Fulop said in a statement “thankfully, the baby will recover” and called gun violence in major cities “a national epidemic.”

Investigators believe that the car was not the intended target but Tu “Linda” Nguyen said that the shots were fired at a parked vehicle and that the vehicle’s rear window shattered.
